COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course is an introductory course on reflective practice. The goal of the class is to introduce students to the
reflective process. This will be done through readings, class discussions, journaling and other activities that enable the students to be introduced to engaging in reflective practice. In this class, we will define the process of reflection and relate reflection to mindfulness practice. We will discuss the components of mindfulness and apply reflection and mindfulness to the learning process. As we understand the process, we will discuss the application of creating learning experiences in different settings. In addition, we will explore the operationalized definition of reflective supervision using the Reflective Interaction Observation Scale (RIOS).

IECD-580: DIR® Theory and Technique offers a comprehensive introduction to the Developmental, Individual Differences, Relationship-based (DIR®) model. It is designed to help students understand the complex intersection between a child's unique neurobiology and the relational environments that shape their growth. The curriculum bridges theory and practice, examining how individual differences and relational care experiences directly impact a child's developmental trajectory. Students will be familiarized with the key constructs of the model and will explore the evidence-based research that validates the DIR® framework. The course is dedicated to mastering the first nine Functional Emotional Developmental Capacities (FEDCs). Students will gain hands-on familiarity with Floortime® strategies, the intervention of the DIR® model, which emphasizes following a child's lead to foster engagement and complexity.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course focuses on reflective practice and techniques. Effective work with infants, young children, and families, involves attunement, sensitivity, containment, reflective capacity, and empathy. However, for many professionals these skills and abilities still require development. Research indicates this is best achieved through reflective practice - the development of self-reflection and the awareness of the impact of self on others. This class is co-taught with IECD 575 which is also an introductory course on reflective practice. The goal of the class is to introduce students to the
reflective process. This will be done through readings, class discussions, journaling and other activities that enable the students to be introduced to engaging in reflective practice.
